History always began with the First Nations with these First Nations including the Inuit and Mohawk as well as the Métis and the Soux including the Blackfoot and the Northwestern First Nations, with the various peoples of Canada's First Nations being led by Chiefs via Tribal Councils as actual sovereign nations within Canada. The title of Chief goes back to ancient times, with there really being no title of King in ancient North America for that was a title that was mentioned in ancient Israel and then ancient Greece and Asia Minor as well as Persia long before the Romans used the title as sub rulers for the Empire.
The Chiefs reigned absolutely but in association with those who were Medicine Men or Shamans, and in times of War those young and able bodied men of the Tribe would fight to the death if need be in which they were called Braves for one had to be Brave enough to fight for the Tribe's survival. Extended families who lived in other areas would come to the aid of one another against an enemy, and whenever an ally met another a Peace Pipe was smoked with such a pipe being with Tobacco that a Tribe would obtain by trade with other nations that had contact with this herb that is native to North America. If not it was a certain herb that could be smoked or a grass that was not toxic, with society living off of hunting and fishing as according to where a society lived unless these were a people who farmed.
The title of Squaw is an unfortunate one for it is not a term that has been used correctly by history as it degrades the idea of a First Nation woman due to the name of a Squaw being that of a concubine in how it was portrayed, with the name of woman in First Nation culture going from Nation to Nation as according to one or the others native language. In Canada there was no Princess Pocahantas, but there was Saint Katera Tekakwitha who is forever known as The Lily of The Mohawk or lys des Mohawks in French.
